Bascule bridge
How does the exhibit work?
Cross the bridge, either on foot or with your wheelchair. Watch out: suddenly the bridge tips to the other side.
What is the science behind it?
This bridge is basically a seesaw, with hinged ramps at both ends. Such a bridge is short, yet the ramp is not too steep. But along the way, it's a bit of a scare!
Want to build a bridge yourself sometime? Check out the Arch bridge inside.
Bridges in nature
Not only humans make bridges, nature joins in too.
Want to see a lot of them in one place? Then head to Arches National Park in the United States. There are more than 2,000 natural bridges there. Wind, water and ice formed them over millions of years time.
