ATM
What do you do at this exhibit?
Children can have a photo printed on a bank card at the ATM, and choose their own PIN for their card. If it’s too simple (1111 or 1234), they have to enter a new, more difficult PIN. They are told not to tell anyone their PIN.
There is a budget on the bank card that they can spend at the restaurant’s till: there is a card reader there that they can use to pay. After 5 payments, the budget on the card runs out. The children can then go to work in the restaurant. There are various roles: you can wash dishes, cook, be an assistant chef, serve or play cashier. There’s a second card reader in the restaurant’s kitchen. If you hold your bank card against it, the card will be topped up. You can top the card up no more than 5 times in a row.
Why is financial education important?
Together with Febelfin, we want to use our cash machine to provide some financial education for children aged between 4 and 8. You may think that’s rather early, but we believe it’s never too early to learn! There is a strong link between knowing about money, engagement and money problems. Making children financially aware from a very young age means that they are more likely to be more financially self-reliant as adults.
Under ‘Examples’, you can find some questions you can ask at different stages of the game, so that your child will learn something from it.
Questions at the ATM
Was your PIN accepted immediately? What PIN wasn’t accepted?
Why do you think that was?
Should you share your bank card’s PIN with other people? Why is that?
What can you do to keep your PIN secret?
Questions at the till
Can you keep on making payments with your bank card?
Why not, do you think?
What do you need to do to get money on your card?
Questions in the restaurant
You can choose different dishes in the restaurant. Which dish will you choose?
Why are some dishes more expensive than others?
Do you know what advertising is? Why is advertised being used?
