Insect burgers

During the show, we do not use real insect burgers, but conduct an experiment with steel wool.

Did you know that even metal can burn? Yes, really! Take, for example, the thin steel in steel wool. Because it is so thin, it can easily come into contact with oxygen from the air and a little carbon from the steel itself.

Now, if we pass an electric current through the steel wool, it gets hot.And when it gets hot enough and oxygenated, it starts to burn! This is because all three parts of fire triangle are present: oxygen, fuel (the steel) and heat.

The iron in the steel burns, which means it reacts with oxygen in the air. And this looks like a cool chemical light show!

Once the reaction starts, it continues as long as there is enough oxygen and iron.
