We all breathe air, right? Well, most of that air is full of something called nitrogen. Normally, nitrogen is a gas, but if you make it super, super cold, it becomes liquid. When it warms back up, it changes back to gas.
Imagine pouring some liquid nitrogen into a jar. But that jar is much hotter than the super-cold nitrogen, as much as 220 degrees hotter! So, when you pour it into that jar, the liquid nitrogen immediately starts evaporating and becomes gas.
But here comes the crazy part: if you use a little liquid nitrogen, you get a lot of gas, as much as 700 times more! The gas has nowhere to go, so pressure builds up in the jar. And guess what? That pressure becomes so great that the lid of the jar pops off! BOOM!
